Research Equipment Technician – Advanced R&D Environment | Groningen area (On-site)

Our partner is an innovative deep-tech scale-up operating at the forefront of advanced materials and device development. Working in a highly technical R&D environment, they translate cutting-edge research into scalable technologies through close collaboration between scientists, engineers, and technical specialists.

To support ongoing growth and increasing R&D complexity, we are looking for a Research Equipment Technician to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of advanced laboratory and cleanroom equipment.

Role Overview

As Research Equipment Technician, you are responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of on-site equipment. You play a critical role in keeping the R&D infrastructure running smoothly and supporting researchers in their day-to-day experimental work.

This is a hands-on, on-site role for someone who enjoys working with precision equipment in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and calibrate advanced laboratory and cleanroom equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers and external engineers on servicing, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support R&D activities by preparing and maintaining technical setups.
  • Contribute to process scaling and smooth transitions from R&D to pilot or pre-production environments.

Your Profile

  • 3–8 years of experience in an R&D, laboratory, or technical service environment.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment maintenance and calibration (e.g. vacuum systems, thin-film tools, reactors, or comparable setups).
  • Technical diploma or degree (MBO/HBO).
  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and safety.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and researchers.
